Outreach: Looking forward to a
new museum, we are increasing efforts to
collaborate with aviation organizations to provide
awareness and opportunities to the members of all participating organizations. Discussions
have included the Baltimore Museum of Industry,
the Civil Air Patrol, Rosie the Riveter, the
Bendix Radio Foundation, and the Thirst `N Howl theater group which has several
aviation programs that it offers the public.
Maryland Aloft: If you have not yet
picked up a copy of this book edited by our own
Dr. Jack Breihan, you should. This is an
outstanding overview of Maryland's almost 250 year relationship with flight. Unlike many
aviation publications, this one focuses on the
people, places, buildings, and communities complementing the airplanes. A number of
items from the Museum's collection were used in preparing the book. Bought from the
Museum (use your membership discount), on-line, or
at bookstores, this is a must for anyone
interested in Maryland's aviation and space history.
This December's membership
meeting will be special. First, we have an
excellent speaker, Ken Hyde, talking about his
Wright Experience group's research of the Wright Brothers design and flight efforts, and
Ken's efforts to exactly replicate and fly early
Wright aircraft. Second, the evening will feature
our annual party. Third, we will be recognizing
of some of our outstanding volunteers and supporters. Mark your calendars.
These accomplishments and opportunities would not have been
possible without the assistance of many capable volunteers. You will note their names
scattered throughout this newsletter, see them
working at the Museum or during various events, or hear about them in discussions. Let
each know you appreciate their efforts on behalf
of the Museum.
